Over 125 years ago, on 2 April 1884, a Talpash first stepped onto American soil. When Theodosiy Talpash stepped off the ramp of the SS Rugia in New York and was cleared immigration at Palace Garden at the tip of Manhattan (the Ellis Island immigration facility did not open until 1892), what was USA like? · slavery had been abolished only 19 years previously; the Indian Wars continued in the West.
· in Canada, Prime Minister John A. MacDonald was preparing to send troops to put down the Riel Rebellion of 1885. · from 1840 to 1930, millions of Europeans flooded in to North America. Financed by the wealthy bankers, infrastructure - roads, railroads, whole cities - grew apace. The millions of immigrants created wealth for their new countries. No wonder the United States and Canada prospered: millions of cheap labourers became the new consumers, purchasing housing and consumer goods of all kinds.
Over 125 years ago the first Talpash in North America joined the stampede to prosperity.
